History of Sannidhiyan
The historical events related to the appearance of Velan at the Selva Sannidhi temple are mentioned in the Kanda Purana.
For example, 2000 years ago, Lord Muruga, accepting the request of Lord Shiva, traveled south with the power of Velan and one lakh nine hundred thousand soldiers given by Mother Parasakthi to destroy the demons such as Soorapadman and reached Thiruchendur. He sent his valiant commander Veerabahu Thevara to Mahendrapuri, the capital of Surapatman, from Tiruchendur… Veerabahu Thevara accepted the request of Lord Muruga and went to Mahendrapuri. When the time came for the meeting, he set foot on the banks of the current Thondaiman river, which was previously called Vallinadhi, took a bath in that river, stopped the work he had brought under the Poovarasa tree on the banks of the Valvai river, and worshipped Lord Muruga. For this reason, this temple is known by the special name Selva Sannidhi.
In later times, when Marudhar Kadirgamar, born in the Bharatavar clan, was working on the Thondaiman river, Lord Muruga came as a young shepherd and called Marudhar Kadirgamar to stand by the riverbank. When Marudhar Kadirgamar refused to come to the shore, Lord Muruga forced him to come to the shore. Marudhar Kadirgamar came to the riverbank and asked Lord Muruga, who came as a goat herder boy, why he had called him, and the boy spoke to Marudhar Kadirgamar affectionately.
Then the boy showed him a place and said that he should build a hut there, make an alms of Anbozhuga on sixty-eight alamilas, prepare a meal and offer a meal there. Astonished, Kadirgamar asked the goat herder boy for an explanation, and the goat herder boy told him that he was Lord Muruga. Marudhar Kadirgamar, however, explained to Lord Muruga that he was not familiar with the mantras and the method of worship because he was born in a non-Brahmin family.
Lord Muruga, however, lovingly greeted him, saying, “Do not be troubled, O Katirgama,” and took him to the sacred place called Katirgama, where he resides. He explained all the methods of worship there. Without taking any mantra into his mind, he covered his mouth with a white cloth and remained silent. He placed a veel in his mind to perform the most sacred puja. When he had gone a long way, he disappeared in the form of light.

Selva Sannidhi is a temple with many natural resources such as water resources, land resources, and shade resources.
This temple is called by many names such as Sannidhi Murugan, Chinna Kathirakamakkanthan, Cellak Kathirakamakkanthan, Kallodaikanthan, Annathanakkanthan, Attankarai Velan.
It is also a temple with the pride of being the ‘Eelamthutthi Tirutthalam’, which is often visited by Siddhas.
The fact that this temple is at the forefront in preserving the glory and pride of the Kanda Purana culture shows the specialness of this temple.
Annachatras and monasteries have been built around the temple, and it is a special temple that serves a great purpose by satisfying the hunger of those who visit this temple every day.
There is a very close connection between this temple and the Kathirakamakkanthan temple.
It is noteworthy that this temple dates back to the 6th century BC, as confirmed by the Neolithic artifacts found during the archaeological study of the area.
The fact that the Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple is mentioned in Portuguese and Dutch documents and in the English book “Temples of Northern Sri Lanka” testifies to the antiquity of this temple.
This temple, which is considered to be the most ancient temple in the North, is an important temple in history, culture and in the context of archaeological studies.
Temple Miracles
The appearance of the Velan temple is a miraculous event.
For example, Lord Muruga came to the riverbank as a young shepherd boy, called the sage Katargamar, who was doing his work in the river, gave him a stick and disappeared in the form of light.
After the grand celebration at the Katargamar temple was over, Lord Muruga came to the shrine night after night and bought a pot of rice and water from Katargamar to relieve his fatigue and drank fresh water to quench his thirst.
It is a miracle that even patients who cannot be cured by doctors come to this temple and stay there, buy the prasad and anointing water offered here, and get rid of their diseases.
It is a miracle that the Gandharva, the messenger of the gods, was cursed by Lord Jupiter and meditated on Lord Muruga at this temple and was freed from the curse.
It is a miracle that he came to the priest in the form of a person to transform his small dwelling into a large temple and instructed him to build a circular hall and disappeared.
It is a miracle that he provided facilities for the circular hall work as a secret object.
It is a miracle that a lamp burns in salt water.
It is also a miracle that he removes the extreme suffering and physical ailments of the devotees who fulfill their vows before him in his holy place and restores them to their normal state.
In this way, many miraculous acts have taken place in the Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple.

ஸ்ரீ செல்வச் சந்நிதி ஆலயம் எப்பபொழுதும் சித்தர்கள் நடமாடுகின்ற ஆலயமாகவே இருந்து வருகின்றது தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்தியும் வெளிப்படுத்தாமலும் இவ்வாலயச்சூழலில் சித்தர்கள் நடமாடிக்கொண்டே இருக்கின்றனர் சிவயோகசுவாமிகள், முருகேசு சுவாமி கள் உட்பட எமது நாட்டைச்சேர்ந்த சித்தர்கள் பலர் இவ்வாலயச்சூழலில் தங்கள் திருவடித் தடங்களைப் பதித்துள்ளனர். இப்பேறு பெற்ற புண்ணிய பூமியில் ஜேர்மன் சுவாமிகள் ஜேர்மனி, ஆனைக்குட்டிசுவாமிகள் பிரித்தானியா, நரிக்குட்டிசுவாமிகள் அவுஸ்திரேலியா, பன்றிக்குட்டிசுவாமிகள் தென்னிந்தியா,என்றழைக்கப்படும் வெளிநாட்டுச்சித்தர்களும் இவ்வாலயச்சூழலில்சமகாலத்தில் வாழ்ந்துள்ளனர். 1965ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆவணிமாதம் 26ஆம் திகதி வீரகேசரிப்பத்திரிகையிலும் இந்த நான்கு சித்தர்கள் பற்றிய விசேட செய்தி ஒன்றும்பிரசுரமாகியிருந்தது.இவர்களில் ஜேர்மன் சுவாமிகள் செல்வச்சந்நிதியில் மிகநீண்ட காலம் தனது தவவாழ்க்கையை வாழ்ந்து 1980 இல் இப்புண்ணிய பூமி சந்நிதியில் சமாதியடைந்ததும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது

மெத்தவீட்டுக்கந்தசாமி ஐயர் உலககுருநாதன் ஐயர் அன்னதான மடம்
தினம் தினம் மானிடனுக்கு ஏற்படுகின்ற துன்பங்களுக்கு நிவர்த்தி கிடைப்பதுடன் தினந்தினம் நமக்கேற்படுகின்ற பசிப்பிணியையும் போக்குகின்ற புண்ணிய தலமாக காலம் காலமாகத் தொடர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்ற ஆலயம்தான் அன்னதானக்கந்தன் (செல்வச்சந்நிதி முருகப்பெருமான்)
அன்னதானக்கந்தனுக்கு பூசை செயற்பாடுகளை மேற்கொண்டு வருபவர்கள் மருதர் கதிர்காமர் வழிவந்த பூசகர்கள். இவர்கள் பூசை செயற்பாடுகளுடன் சம நேரத்தில் ஆலயத்தில் அடியவர்களுக்கு நித்திய அன்னதானப்பணியினையும் மேற்கொண்டுவருகின்றனர்.
சந்நிதியில் பூசை முடிந்ததும் அடியவர்களுக்கு அமுது வழங்கும் முறையினை ஏறத்தாழ 1915 களில் முதன்முதலில் ஆரம்பித்து நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியவர் அமரர் உலககுருநாதன் ஐயர் அவர்களின் தந்தை மெத்த வீட்டுக்கந்தசாமி ஐயர் அவர்களாவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது
இவ்வாறு ஸ்ரீசெல்வச்சந்நிதி ஆலயத்தில் பிரதம பூசகராக இருந்து பூசைமுறைகளை மேற்கொண்டு வந்ததுடன் அடியவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் நிறைவாகப்பசியாற்றிச்செல்லும் வகையில் ஆலயத்தில் அன்னதானப்பணியையும் முதன் முதலில் 1998 இல் ஆரம்பித்து நடைமுறைப்படுத்தி, அனைவரும் பாராட்டும் வகையில் மேற்கொண்டுவந்து அண்மையில் அமரத்துவமடைந்தவர்தான் சிவஸ்ரீ உலககுருநாதன் ஐயர் அவர்களாவர்.
